About Therapy

You’re not “angry.”
You’re carrying something you’ve never been taught to feel.

Most of the men who sit across from me don’t walk in saying, “I need help with my emotions.” They say their partner is frustrated, the house feels tense, and they’re tired of blowing up or shutting down.

You may feel like you’re constantly being told you’re not communicating enough, you’re too reactive, or too distant. Inside, you’re overwhelmed, but the only emotion that seems to come out clearly is anger.

“Handle things on your own… push through… don’t make a big deal out of what you feel…” That worked for a while – until it didn’t.

Until your relationship started to strain. Until your kids noticed your tone. Until you realized you were either snapping or checking out.

Anger is rarely the whole story. It’s usually what sits atop hurt, fear, shame, or exhaustion.

Therapy with me is direct, steady, and grounded.

I don’t shame you. I don’t overcomplicate things. And I don’t let you stay on the surface either.

We talk about what’s happening in real time. If you describe an argument, we slow it down. What did you feel before you raised your voice? What story ran through your mind? What did your body do? We get underneath the reaction.

You might notice something unfamiliar at first. A pause before you respond. A deeper breath. A moment of realizing, “I’ve felt this before.”

That’s where change starts.

I combine emotional processing with practical regulation tools. You learn to sit with your emotions rather than suppress them. You learn to respond with intention rather than react on impulse.

Strength through vulnerability isn’t a slogan. It’s a skill.

Break cycles instead of carrying them.

You don’t want your kids absorbing that same blueprint. You don’t want your partner feeling alone next to you. But you don’t know how to do it differently.

Over months, you start noticing shifts.

You catch the anger before it spikes. You say, “I’m overwhelmed,” instead of slamming a door. You stay present in hard conversations instead of walking away.

Your partner feels it. Your kids feel it. You feel it.

The goal isn’t to become someone soft or passive. It’s to become emotionally steady. To carry weight without carrying it alone.

For some clients, anxiety is the main struggle.

Your mind never stops. Overthinking every decision or questioning whether you’re good enough at work, at home, in your faith, in your identity. You look composed on the outside, but internally, you’re running constant self-criticism.

In our work, we connect anxiety to its roots. Rigid expectations. Early pressure. Attachment wounds.

We use cognitive reframing and emotional awareness together. Not just to calm symptoms, but to understand the deeper pattern. You learn to sit with discomfort rather than avoid it, and to respond to your inner critic rather than obey it.

You’ll notice the biggest change isn’t that anxiety disappears. It’s that it stops controlling every decision. You can feel clearer, more grounded, and more confident in who you are.

This work requires honesty. I work best with men and adults who are willing to self-reflect. I’m compassionate, but I won’t collude with avoidance. Real growth requires accountability.

If you’re looking for quick fixes without emotional work, I’m probably not your therapist. If you’re ready to break cycles, learn how to sit with emotion, and build steadier relationships, we can do meaningful work together.

About Percy Ray Ballard, LMFT

I understand the weight men carry.

For many years, I’ve sat with men who were told to “handle it” on their own. I’ve seen how emotional suppression turns into anger, how shame hides underneath silence, how men who deeply love their families struggle to show it in a way that feels safe.

That’s why I specialize in this work. Men deserve a space where strength isn’t measured by emotional shutdown.

Why I practice the way I do...

My approach is attachment-focused and trauma-informed. I integrate emotional processing, cognitive reframing, relational pattern awareness, and anger regulation strategies. We explore family-of-origin patterns and how they shaped your emotional blueprint.

But more than techniques, what matters is how I show up.

I’m direct, but compassionate.

I believe emotional awareness is a strength, anger makes sense in context, and change happens when clients feel safe enough to be honest about what’s really underneath the surface.

Integrity, responsibility, and meaningful connection – these values shape how I practice.

If you’re tired of carrying everything alone and ready to build steadiness in yourself and your relationships, I’d be honored to work with you.

“Let go of the weight you’ve carried alone.”

You don't have to wait for things to fall apart.

Therapy can help you build something steadier.

Reaching out can be the first step toward strength that doesn't require silence.
